Academy

Train to become a Competitive Water Polo Athlete

This COED program introduces children ages 9 to 14 to competitive water polo. Emphasis is placed on the development of fundamental water polo skills, tactics and fitness required to succeed in competitive water polo, as well as advanced swimming skills. This program corresponds to the ‘training to train’ phase of the Long-Term Athlete Development model (LTAD). Team building, discipline, personal growth and elementary tactics are key learning objectives of this program. No water polo experience is necessary, but players should be very good deep-water swimmers and be ready to train in a more structured environment. An evaluation of the player’s current abilities and overall potential will first be performed by the team Coach to ensure that the player is ready to participate in the Academy. Academy players will have the opportunity to participate in invitational and Provincial tournaments and championships. This program includes four (Academy A) or three (Academy B) practices per week.  This program also offers Mini National Capital Water Polo League (Mini-NCWPL) games on Sunday nights at the Nepean Sportsplex.  New players are welcome throughout the year. The program runs from September to May.
