Water Fun

Introduction to Aquatic Skills

This COED program is targeted at ages 5 to 7 who are not yet strong enough swimmers to join the our Swim and Play programs. The Water Fun program is divided into two levels, with each practice of 45-minutes duration.  Note that both levels may be combined at some pools.  Each practice will include work on aquatic skills as well as free play to develop some basic water polo related skills. New players are welcome throughout the year. This program runs from mid-September to late May.

Water Fun I

For children both in 2016-2018 [see Note 1 at the bottom of this page] – Parents of younger/weaker athletes may be required to participate in the classes and be within arm’s reach of their child.  This is not only for safety reasons but also, as a first-time introduction to the aquatic environment for some children, the parent’s presence helps provide a more comforting experience in the water.  In this program, participants will learn basic water skills, providing a jump-start to the aquatic environment which will form a strong basis for the development of more advanced swimming skills.  Game play will be used to build their confidence in the water.

Academy

Train to become a Competitive Water Polo Athlete

This COED program introduces children ages 9 – 14 to competitive water polo. Emphasis is placed on the development of fundamental water polo skills, tactics and fitness required to succeed in competitive water polo. This program corresponds to the ‘training to train’ phase of the Long-Term Athlete Development model (LTAD). Team building, discipline, personal growth and elementary tactics are key learning objectives of this program. No water polo experience is necessary, but players should be very good deep-water swimmers and be ready to train in a more structured environment. An evaluation of the player’s current abilities and overall potential will first be performed by the team Coach to ensure that the player is ready to participate in the Academy. Academy players will have the opportunity to participate in invitational and Provincial tournaments and championships. This program includes four (Academy A) or three (Academy B) practices per week.  This program also offers Mini National Capital Water Polo League (Mini-NCWPL) games on Sunday nights at the Nepean Sportsplex.  New players are welcome throughout the year. The program runs from September to May.

Academy B is for athletes born in 2010-2014 [see Note 1 at the bottom of this page].

Academy A is for athletes born in 2009-2014 [see Note 1 at the bottom of this page].
