Message from the President
I feel great pride in how this year, as a community, we navigated through some extreme turbulence and emerged as a larger, more focused club. Our team of volunteers really pushed the water polo boundary this year and through sheer determination, placed us on a path to on-going success. So far this year, we have welcomed 80 new athletes. Our I Love Water Polo program is back to a healthy 56 budding water polo players. The Academy program where our athletes are introduced to competitive water polo has 18 players. Our competitive program, clearly not fully recovered from last year’s events, has brought in new athletes and now includes 26 players. Our House League and Adult Learn-to-Play programs continue to grow and now have 27 players. Finally, our Adult Semi-Competitive program has an unprecedented total of 36 participants. In all, we are now 160+ players strong!
Our rebuilding work did not stop at recruiting new players. We also managed to build one of the most formidable coaching teams in the country. Our team currently includes 20 coaches with a total of over 100 years of combined coaching experience, including international competitive experience! We also organized a referee training course that was attended by 17 individuals and as a result, we expect our pool of local qualified referees to grow significantly.
Our budget for 2012-13 was fairly conservative and reflected minimal forecast growth in membership since it was felt that we really needed to plan for committed achievable revenues rather than hope for unsubstantiated predictions to materialize. The growth that we experienced this year has increased our anticipated revenues which are in part offset by associated increases in pool time and coaching costs. By keeping our administrative costs to bare necessities, we are on target to reduce our outstanding liability by at least 50% by the end of this season. Overall, our current financial outlook is by far more positive and healthy than it has been over the past few years.
As we enter the second half of the 2012-13 season, we now turn our attention to our plans for the next season. Already our team of volunteer parents and coaches has started defining initiatives that we hope will help further increase the awareness of water polo and of our club in the National Capital area. There are a number of very cool ideas being entertained, but our ability to implement all of them is limited by the number of volunteers available to help out. I would invite all of you to contact me firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to contribute to these efforts, even if your contributions have to be very minimal. Every little bit helps!
I look forward to seeing our athletes perform during the upcoming tournament season. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all. Go Titans!
